Of Hidden Wings, Interwoven Fates Book One!

Honor and the Purple/ A Dreamer's Weavings/ Of Hidden Wings, Book One/ By Twilight Beckoned, Book Two

There's a fine line between the blessed and the damned...

A merciless demon has hunted the outskirts of the small village for years now... Though those within seem safe from his terrible hunger, outsiders have learned that to enter the cursed town these days is to invite death, on leathery wings, with terrible fangs. No one can be certain whether he is a damned soul, doomed to roam the mortal world forever, or a misguided protector of what he considers his, but that blood has flowed at his hands for too long now, no one can deny. Even the one person in the town that knows his secret.

And yet it can be said that he is a protector indeed, for there is one threat faced by the outside world, that those within his carefully guarded hunting ground need never fear... Vampires. A pity the vampire hunters don't realize that, or that a living demon, is not nearly as simple an enemy, as an undead former human...

It seems they will keep coming... And he will keep killing them...

He's not alone...

With the appearance of the demon, however many years before, came another with no place in mortal reality... An angel. Radiating beauty, those few who have had the chance to see him close up bear no doubt of his divinity. And yet for the most part he remains hidden, like the demon, on the edge of the forest. Perhaps keeping his unholy counterpart from entering this place of human souls, and seeking his prey within, as well as without.

And yet the question remains on many minds, though it hangs unspoken, of why the angel doesn't simply destroy the demon outright, and end the struggle forever. It may be that he's forbidden to, it may be that he simply isn't strong enough, or it may be that his reason are his own, bearing no weight from mortal lives.

But if both angel and demon are here for reasons of their own, then what will it mean to the others who call this place home, should they ever find out the truth?

Is the angel really any less dangerous than the demon?

She keeps the secret...

After all these years of living so close to a mortal settlement, it was impossible to hope that none who dwelled there would ever learn the truth of the strange pair who dwelled nearby.

Something of a curiousity herself, a female dhampir born of a female dhampir, with a vampire father herself, the young woman has called the secluded village home since she made her way here at a tender age, after her mother died. One of many young dhampir drawn here, for reasons none know, she has since left childhood behind... But now has no more reason to leave.

Saved from a hunting vampire years before, and by the demon, rather than the angel, she came to know the truth that until then, no one had realized... That the two were actually one and the same. And that these two forms weren't the only ones he could take...

And so she guards his secret, this strange creature she's long since given her heart to, and remains his only link to his mortal heart, once gentle hands give way to demon claws. Whether even this binding will remain enough though, once she decides the killing must stop, only she has any real faith in.

But then, she's never felt the demon's rage... Or his hunger.

They come seeking the truth...

The trio of vampire hunters come to town expecting a typical hunt, but the reception they receive is far from normal. Unwelcome, unwanted, they're rebuffed at every turn, warned time and again that those who come seeking vampires have no idea what they're getting into. They refuse to believe of stories of demons and angels, calling them children's tales.

As night follows day though, they find themselves drawn into the strange secrets of the forbidden village. Children's tales become flesh and blood dangers, as they are forced to realize that there is far more in the night than they ever dreamed. Rather than hunting the creature who has killed those who've come before, they may find themselves willing to die to protect those he loves.

Even if they do survive this hunt, they may never see the night the same way again...

His reasons, too, are his own...

He never actually comes out and says he's a near-vampire... So it can't be called a lie. More to the point, to those who can see the truth, is what he's doing there. Claiming to be a vampire hunter in one breath, in the next he offers assurances that he never came here expecting anything but a demon. It still doesn't explain why a vampire, one of the oldest, to all appearances, would come to this out-of-the-way village, seeking something he has to know could destroy him.

But then again, there is the matter of the orphan dhampir girl he quickly seeks out, and a certain mystery to her blood that seems to draw him like a flame... Though whether it's for a matter of birth, or her connection to the prey he hunts, even she doesn't know for certain. The proposition he offers her though, is anything but subtle, and if she doesn't accept his terms the first time he offers them, it could cost her everything she's tried for so long now to protect.

But is the price one she's willing to pay, even to protect her love's most dangerous secret?
